What does participation in e-link involve?

To date, over 50 Japan-UK school partnerships have been established. These partnerships vary greatly in nature and objectives, with some enjoying regular, basic e-mail correspondence on an individual basis, and others embracing more ambitious, curriculum-based group projects. A few schools have even arranged student exchanges. However all these exchanges share a common purpose in motivating students to learn more about each other's cultures and languages, and providing direct insights into aspects of contemporary life in the UK and Japan.

Teachers thinking about starting a link should first read our guide.

What is e-link?

The e-link scheme, launched in 2000 by the British Embassy and the British Council in Japan, aims at bringing together schools in Japan and the UK. This site contains a section where schools can apply for partners, information about other schools, advice on how to set up a successful school link, and many useful teaching ideas. Users can see examples of students' work and read about how teachers have made use of the opportunities that having a partner school can bring. There are also details of practical ideas that have been used by teachers involved in international exchanges, and of projects that fit in with school curricula in both countries.
